Richmond captain Cam Mitchell will celebrate his 100th appearance for the club as his side look to continue their impressive start to the season against Old Elthamians at the Athletic Ground on Saturday afternoon.

The dynamic hard-working centre, who took over the captaincy from club legend Will Warden at the beginning of last season, will cement his place as a Richmond centurion in a crucial National League 1 fixture against local rivals OE’s.

Mitchell, who joined Richmond ahead of the 2015/16 season and previously captained Darlington Mowden Park, says he is looking forward to making his 100th appearance in front of a strong home crowd.

“I am extremely proud to line up for my 100th cap and it feels even more special to reach this milestone at home in Richmond”, Mitchell said.

“I knew from the first day I joined Richmond that this is a club for life. It’s an outstanding environment and whether I made one cap or 100, it’s an enormous privilege to lead such a great group of lads into battle each week.

“I can’t wait to get out there and play in front of my family and friends. It’s always very special playing at the Athletic Ground and it should be a cracking match against a tough OE’s outfit.”

Saturday’s fixture will be an intriguing clash with OE’s arriving at the Athletic Ground full of confidence following their fifth win of the season against a strong Chinnor side last weekend.

While Richmond, who currently hold a three point lead at the top of National League 1, bounced back strongly last Saturday, following their first defeat of the season a week before, with a hard-fought 23-6 victory away against Rotherham.

“We are predicting a very physical and challenging fixture”, Mitchell said.

“They’re a top-half team and will be dangerous in all areas of the match. They also have strike power out wide and will punish us if we make simple errors or are ill-disciplined.

“We have spent the last few weeks working towards a full 80 minute performance and I still don’t think we have hit our targets just yet.

“It was a huge result for our club last Saturday against Rotherham. We were exceptionally poor the week before against Cinderford and bouncing back like the way we did on the weekend, in horrendous conditions, was a hugely important result for us.

“I am confident if we produce a strong performance from start to finish we will put ourselves in the best possible position to secure the win.”
