Carshalton Athletic are finally looking forward to home comforts as the club progressed in the FA Cup last Saturday, writes James Barrett-Sterling.

The Robins made the seven-hour round trip to play Lowestoft Town in the third qualifying round and won 2-1 thanks to a double from in-form Ricky Korboa.

That was Carshalton’s third consecutive away game in the competition but now, after Monday afternoon’s draw for the fourth qualifying round, they will host National League side Dagenham and Redbridge later this month.

And player/manager Peter Adeniyi welcomed the home tie during an October containing five away games for his squad.

“At the moment it seems to be away, away, away for us so a home tie is welcome,” smiled Adeniyi.

“But we didn’t mind what we got in the next round as I know we’d give anyone a good game. Dagenham and Redbridge will prove a tough challenge and we’ll look forward to meeting it head on.”

Carshalton survived two first-half scares in Suffolk last weekend as Lowestoft hit the woodwork before and after Korboa’s 14th minute opener.

But the Robins looked the more assured after the break and Korboa struck again on 67 minutes, while Lowestoft’s Malachi Linton scored with the last kick of the game after his initial spot-kick was saved by Kleton Perntreou.

“It was a satisfying afternoon’s work in the end, we defended excellently in the second-half and are only disappointed not to have kept a clean sheet,” Adeniyi added.

“It’s never an easy ride at Lowestoft and I’m surprised to see them struggling in their league, their energy and commitment impressed me.

“We came up to Suffolk the night before and the whole squad conducted themselves professionally. The players were a credit to the club and they got their reward.”

Dagenham and Redbridge, who are led by former Crystal Palace and Gillingham manager Peter Taylor, play two divisions above Carshalton and currently sit in the top ten.

But next up for Carshalton is a local league derby against Kingstonian at Colston Avenue on Saturday 9th October (kick-off 3pm).
