Brentford Chairman believes the Club are ‘not far away’ from competing at the top of The Championship.

Following a 3-0 home win against Preston in the final game of the season, Cliff Crown, gave an honest assessment of the season in which Thomas Frank’s men finished 11th.

“I would say this season has been a seven out of ten,” Crown told

“We’ve shown on our day we are easily in the top six in the league.

“I think individual errors cost us.

“The defence was not quite good enough and yet when we changed formation we looked much better.

“At the end of the day, our goal difference, the number of goals scored, and our home form are really positive factors to go into next season.”

Crown hasn’t lost sight of how far the club has come, and with a new stadium on the horizon, of where the club are going.

“It’s alright to have big ambitions, but at the end of the day, you compare us to Derby County, West Brom, Leeds United, Norwich City, these are huge clubs.

“We are punching above our weight.

“We’ve had five years in the Championship, top half finishes, growing in quality and getting better, we have a strong group.”

The highs of the impressive home wins over Sheffield Wednesday, Leeds United, Stoke City, QPR and Hull have come with equally poor results on the road, falling to 16 defeats.

Crown however believes Frank isn’t far from solving their away from and with their young squad should be challenging higher the season next term.

“We have a level of expectancy among fans that we should be doing better because we show how good we are on occasions.

“Leeds, Blackburn, Stoke away, we should’ve got more points, and when we do we’ll be in the top six, I don’t think we’re that far away.

“Josh Dasilva, Emliaino Marcondes, Sergi Canos, we have lots of positives to take out of the season.

“And if we can reduce those individual errors, I think we’ll fair well next year.”
