There's still a lot to play for down at Colston Avenue as Carshalton Athletic got back to winning ways last weekend, writes James Barrett-Sterling.

Despite exiting their last cup competition of the season earlier this month, the Robins are aiming to finish their league campaign strongly and perhaps be involved in the Bostik Premier play-offs.

Two second-half goals by Ricky Korboa eventually saw off visiting Lewes 2-1 last Saturday which stretched an unbeaten league run to six games.

And, with the club currently nine points outside the coveted top five spots, coach Keith Boanas revealed the drive among the squad is really there to mount a push up the table.

"There is every intention of going for the play-offs, we are definitely looking to go for it," said Boanas.

"We have a big squad which Peter (Adeniyi, player/manager) and I will have to manage, but with the games coming thick and fast that by no means a bad thing.

"But we certainly feel like we have the quality of players to mount a challenge further up the league."

Carshalton dominated the opening 45 minutes against Lewes but the game was goalless at half-time, mainly as visiting keeper Lewis Carey in particular saved good effort from Adeniyi and Jacob Mendy.

But the visitors opened the scoring on 54 minutes as a free kick into the Robins' area wasn't cleared and the loose ball was thumped in by defender Stacey Freeman.

"We should've been three or four goals up by half-time and sometimes a little bit of nervousness sets in. We then didn't defend against a set-piece properly and we're suddenly behind," Boanas added.

But the majority of the 427 crowd left Colston Avenue happy as Korboa scored twice in two minutes to turn things around and become the club's current top goalscorer (with eight) in the process.

"We'd discussed taking Ricky off funnily enough, because he'd been ill in the run up to the game, but he must've got wind of it," smiled Boanas.

"Both our goals were well-crafted with Ricky finishing them really well. All these guys give absolutely everything every week and it's that kind of spirit that'll help us to push on."

Korboa was again on target for the Robins in Tuesday night's 1-1 draw at Margate. The Kent club denied Adeniyi's team all three points with an equaliser deep into injury time.

Carshalton have two home games upcoming as fellow play-off hopefuls Folkestone Invicta arrive on Saturday 2nd March (kick-off 3pm) before struggling Harlow Town come to Colston Avenue on Monday 4th March (kick-off 7.45pm).
