Winning the FA Cup with his hometown team would be a ‘proud’ moment for Roy Hodgson, but he’s not allowing himself to think about that as he prepares his side to face Doncaster in the fifth round.

Palace travel to the Keepmoat Stadium on Sunday to take on Grant McCann’s side who have won three of their last four matches.

Hodgson, who has managed over 20 teams in his 43-year managerial career, claimed winning the world’s oldest football cup competition would be a special moment

“Lifting the cup even if, I only got my finger on it, it would certainly be a highlight,” he said.

“I’d be extremely proud.”

“I don’t like saying 'highlight of my career' as I’ve been quite fortunate.

“I’m not prepared to rank it in anyway but it would be a fantastic situation to find myself in.”

Not getting Carried Away

Hodgson referenced his time at Malmo as contributing to one of his ‘many’ career highlights.

“There’s not many people who have part of a stadium named after them,” he claimed, eluding to the part of the Stadion affectionately known as ‘Hodgson’s Corner.’

With only seven of the 16 teams left in the competition being Premiership sides, Hodgson was adamant he wouldn’t let the trip to lower league opposition allow himself to look too far ahead in the competition.

“There’ll be some very good premiership teams left in the quarters and semis, so sooner or later you have to end up winning game you’re giving little chance of winning. It.

“But I’ll worry about that when I get there.

“In the meantime let’s concentrate on Doncaster, and then see what fate and the draw brings.”

Injury Boost

Palace travel to Donny buoyed by the return of Cheikhou Kouyate who is available for selection, but they will be made to sweat on the availability of Wilfried Zaha’s as they await the verdict of the appeal against the extended ban for his dismissal at Southampton on January 30.

“He’s one of the players we are thinking we could and will need but will have to wait and see.

“We thought it was a very harsh punishment and that the sending off was enough, but we must wait for the appeal committee’s decision.”
