Brentford have not given up hopes of a late play-off bid but will only take it game by game according Sergi Canos.

The Bees saw a slump in form after Dean Smith’s departure for Aston Villa in October, but manager Thomas Frank has turned their fortunes around and are unbeaten in ten.

Spaniard Canos who scored in their mid-week FA Cup fourth round replay win over Barnet claimed clawing back the ten points between themselves in 17th and sixth spot is feasible, but it starts with a win at Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

“The target is to win the next game, then we can dream, but if we don’t win the next game there is no dreams,” said the 22-year-old.

“You know how football works you get one good run and one bad run, but the most important thing is to stay positive, stay together and keep believing.

“I know it’s not easy to stay positive when results are not the best but you can see from watching this team playing three months ago to now, it’s all about confidence.

“It’s all credit to everyone at the club.

“I think Thomas (Frank) led us to where we are and we pushed a lot to be here and the team is playing some great football and it’s amazing to watch us play now.”

Many attribute the change in fortunes to the change in fortunes.

Reverting to three centre-backs, with Ezri Konsa and Yoann Barbet either side of the impressive Julien Jeanvier, they have shrugged the ‘soft-goals’ label they possessed and Konsa believes that’s down to the manager.

“The mindset of everyone has changed,” said the former Charlton ace.

“We now defend as a team and everyone has a defensive mindset.

“Credit to Thomas too, because he changed the formation and with it - the mindset.”

The Bees travel to 12th placed Forest who are five points ahead but importantly they have a game in hand over.
