Lyle Taylor will miss Charlton’s next three matches after his red card against Accrington Stanley was upheld.
Taylor and Stanley goalkeeper Jonny Maxted were both shown red cards in the 82nd minute of Charlton’s 1-0 win on Saturday.
Addicks boss Lee Bowyer confirmed at the final whistle they would be appealing the decision but the EFL have ruled not to overturn it.
Maxted’s red card has been rescinded however.
Taylor is set to miss the upcoming trips to Peterborough United, Fleetwood Town, as well as the February 9th home game against Southend United.
The striker took to social media to address the situation:
I'd like to apologise for the actions that resulted in my sending off on Saturday. The club have appealed and failed for reasons the FA have not explained. I apologise to my teammates, the manager, the staff and the fans for letting them down. I'm sorry 🔴⚪️❤️ #Addicks pic.twitter.com/eehQoV1E8U

According to the FA website, Taylor’s misdemeanour description reads as: ‘Kicking-Violent Conduct.’

Fan Backlash
Charlton fans reacted with understandable disappointment at the news they’d be losing their stand out performer this season for the upcoming crucial fixtures. Needless to say, The FA were subject to their anger:
Please explain how #lyletaylor, who was being stamped on by several players, deserved to get sent off? #cafc #hedidnothing

@FA Send me the clip where Lyle Taylor deserves the Red card, you lot are f*****g clueless.

F.a are as much use as a one legged man in an arse kicking competion. Blind w******.#cafc

@FA how on earth have you decided that @CAFCofficial Lyle Taylor's sending off was a just decision?? I was behind the goal and he did nothing neither did the Accrington goalkeeper although you let him off..

If Lyle Taylor is banned for 3 Games for what no one is sure what he did then Sam Finley's ban should be at least double for stamping on a fellow professionals head #cafc https://t.co/t4ShRZJTxO

@FA @EFL in the interest of transparency could you please release the reasons why you upheld Lyle Taylor’s red card but not the Accrington keepers despite it being in the same incident and nothing clear cut other than poor match officials #cafc
— Addictedtocafc (@freeCAFC) January 22, 2019
So let’s get this right - the Acci Stanley Keeper who started the mass punch up, gets let off - Lyle Taylor who spent the whole time laid out on the floor being kicked by at least 2 Acci Scum, has to serve a 3 match ban. The Faceless @FA Appeals Panel give no reason behind it.

Genuinely unsure how the FA didn’t overturn @lyletaylor90 red card from Saturday, but they did Maxteds. Regardless, the Red Army will be behind the boys on Saturday at Peterborough #CAFC @CAFCofficial

@FA @EFL. Sick and tired of how you are ‘running’ the game and how you ‘protect’ utterly inadequate match officials. You spoil it for fans up & down the land. Those at the top, please pack the job in and let people who know about football run it. You’re all inept & useless #CAFC
— JP (@whatsallthefus2) January 23, 2019
@EFL You are a disgrace. You are unfit for purpose, @lyletaylor90 got viciously assaulted yet you refuse his appeal. #ShameOnYou You are responsible for everything that is currently wrong in football. #Cafc

Few fans however were expecting the outcome:
Don’t shoot me down, but not in a million years was Taylor going to have that red card over turned... he was silly. Elbowing the keeper before kicking while the keeper was getting up.... his got to stop what he does at corners. Hope he ain’t let us down for the next three #cafc

In a separate incident Stanley defender Sam Finley has been charged with violent conduct in the same game.
