Sutton United boss Paul Doswell has labelled Saturday's FA Cup showdown with Slough Town 'a £60,000 game.'

The U's go into the first round clash expected to make their superior status count by beating the National South side, earning more cup kudos and cash on their way to a money-spinning tie in the next stage.

But the U's know a thing or two about giantkilling, and Doswell admits his players will have to be focused if they're to avoid being on the wrong end of an upset this time around.

“We’ve had Slough watched twice already,” said the Sutton boss.

“We always do our analysis and make sure we know the strengths and weaknesses of the opposition.

“They’ve beaten a good Concord side today (Saturday) and, I will tell everyone now, it’s going to be a real tough game.

“It’s coming down to pounds, shillings and pence this game. It’s probably a £60,000 game, that's what we're talking about."

Under the stewardship of management duo John Underwood and Neil Baker, the Rebels are riding a crest of a wave after moving into a new stadium in 2016 and winning promotion last season.

They have acquitted themselves well to their new surroundings both on and off the field and are currently ninth in the league table.

Sutton’s FA Cup exploits are part of English football folklore but Slough made waves of their own last year by reaching the second round where they were beaten 4-0 by League One side Rochdale in front of the BT Sports cameras.

United go into the match full of confidence having won four of their last five games in all competitions.

Kieron Cadogan pounced on a loose ball in the 56th minute to score the only goal of the game as the U’s edged past Dagenham and Redbridge last Saturday.

It may not have been pretty, but the win keeps the momentum going as United embark on what they hope will be another memorable FA Cup campaign.

Doswell knows better than anyone that a good run in the competition can galvanise a club and a community as well as securing a much-needed cash injection. He issued a rally cry ahead of the big game.

“I hope we get good support," said the Sutton boss. "It’s very cheap to come here and we need people here in their numbers.

“John Underwood and Neil Baker will think that their team is more than capable of getting a result.

“So, it’s very important that we play as best as we can because any reduction in that will see a defeat here."
