London Scottish host Richmond this Friday in the Championship Cup looking to right a few wrongs.

Despite sitting above their ground share rivals in the league, it is Richmond who currently have the bragging rights in the borough after defeating the Exiles 24-19 in the opening round of league games.

“We have a score to settle,” said Scottish’s fly half Jacob Perry.

“It’ll be a fixture of passion and heart, but we don’t feel we gave a good account of ourselves in that game.”

Trying To Build

According to Perry the first game of six cup games gives Scottish a chance to redeem themselves after a disappointing start to the season which finished in a 36-20 defeat by Doncaster at The Richmond Athletic Ground.

The former Hartpury player said that Scottish may use the cup games to give some players game-time but insisted they are targeting making it through the group stages of the tournament.

“We’re not looking to lay back in the cup and we aren’t seeing it as a chance to throw guys caps because they’ve been training, we’re trying to build.

“With the squad we’ve got we are going ok in the league, but we can definitely be doing a lot better. This is a chance for us to improve and work on our game.

“We’re targeting our home games, starting on Friday and push on from there. Once we get out the group anything can happen.”

Aiming For Top Half

Scottish currently sit eighth in the GreeneKing IPA Championship after an indifferent start to the season. Sat two positions and two points above Richmond, Perry believes they should be looking to get in to the top six come the end of the season.

“We believe we can win every game we go and play, if you don’t believe that you shouldn’t be at Scottish. With the players we’ve got we should be pushing up there.”

Perry, a personal trainer away from rugby and a summer recruit from Hartpury, says he found it hard leaving the club he guided to National League One honours, but that at Scottish he can become a better player in a team that is constantly looking to improve.

“Everyone dreams to play in the top league but I’m not looking too far ahead.

“Scottish have been close in the play-offs before so if we can get up to the top end of the table this season we can push on next year. But at the moment I want to improve as a player and help Scottish improve what they’re doing.

“It starts on Friday. There’ll be a good crowd, and we’ll be going all out for the win.”
