The Exiles will be looking for maximum points this Saturday as they host Doncaster in the final league game before Championship Cup duties take precedence until December 30.

Sitting seventh in the league and coming off the back of a 17-5 win at Yorkshire, Scottish will look to end an inconsistent run of Championship matches on a high.

For those that have followed Scottish this season will know that they have been slow starters and scrum-half Ed Hoadley says that is the area they will be looking to improve on, beginning this weekend.

“We are aware as a squad there’s a big emphasis on the first twenty minutes,” said Hoadley.

“Too often this season we’ve been slow out the blocks and the game has run away from us. But, when we do get it right, like at Yorkshire when we smothered them - we can kill teams early and give them no signs of hope.

“We’ve shown in second half performances we can run teams off the pitch. It’s about getting that first half right because when we’ve done that we’ve cleaned teams up pretty comfortably.”

Tries from in-from Rob Stevenson and a Miles Mantella brace, in only his second start this season for the club, gave Scottish the points and a confidence boost ahead of Saturdays match against the side in tenth place.

“Doncaster are a well drilled outfit under Clive Griffiths with a lot of speed in the back three. They won the second half against London Irish last week, so they’ll come down in good spirits but if we focus getting our own game right that should take care of itself.”

Following this weekend’s match will be the start of the new Championship Cup, it sees Scottish once again lining up against local rivals Richmond in the opening fixture on November 9.

The break from the league has come at a good time according to Hoadley.

“It’s a good chance for the lads who train week in week out who for whatever reason don’t get the nod at the weekend to have a lead role and show what they can do. It’s also a good opportunity for some of the boys who’ve been playing 80 minutes each week to rest both mentally and physically.”
