There is a feel-good factor back around Colston Avenue as Carshalton Athletic recorded back-to-back wins for the first time this season, writes James Barrett-Sterling.

The Robins, until they travelled to Harlow Town and dismantled their hosts 4-0 in mid-October, hadn’t registered a victory since the end of August – a run that saw the club slip towards the bottom of the Bostik Premier and exit two cup competitions at the first hurdle.

But they followed up that impressive victory in Harlow with a battling 1-0 win over Potters Bar Town last Saturday, a result that has helped haul the club back up to 12th in the league.

And, ahead of a trip to Folkestone Invicta this Tuesday (23rd October), player/manager Peter Adeniyi believes a recent break has been the catalyst to this return to form.

“All the hard work we put in during a two week break we had before Harlow has paid dividends and I’m so proud of this group of boys,” said Adeniyi.

“Whatever we ask of them, they just get stuck in and give us something back.

“I’m most proud of us keeping two clean sheets. We are always a team that’ll always create chances, but I’ve been really happy with the team’s recent performances defensively.”

Four Carshalton players grabbed their first goals of the season across those last two matches, including Tommy Bradford whom grabbed the winner against a stubborn Potters Bar Town just after the hour mark.

“I’ve just tried to get into the box and Ricky (Korboa) over-hit his cross, but I’ve gambled by staying in there and met Bobby’s (Price) ball back in,” smiled Bradford whom nodded the cross back beyond keeper Berkley Laurencin.

That strike puts the 22-year old forward, who made his Carshalton debut aged just 17, on 95 career goals and few would bet against him not making that a century by the end of this season.

“That’ll be a nice moment and I’ll try my best to get there, but we’ve been stressing the importance of keeping clean sheets recently. Everybody has been working hard from the front to the back and we are now starting to see the benefits.”

Carshalton Athletic’s trip to Folkestone Town is on Tuesday 23rd October (kick-off 7.45pm).
