Ryan Moss was relieved to re-open his Kingstonian goalscoring account on Monday and he has told fans not to panic over the side’s slow start to the new Ryman Premier Division campaign.

Moss, right, struck the equaliser in a 1-1 home draw with Hendon on Monday to secure the club’s first point of the season after Saturday’s last-gasp opening day 1-0 defeat at newly promoted Harlow Town.

“Sometimes you have to write the first game of the season off as a cup final - anything can happen," said the former Margate striker, who returned to Kingsmeadow this summer after two seasons on the Kent coast.

“It is hard to judge where that result will stand come the end of the season.

Threat: Kingstonian striker Greg Akpele, on loan from Hampton & Richmond Borough, in action against Hendon

"We hit the bar a couple of times, had one effort cleared off the line and Rob Tolfrey had to make a couple of decent saves.

"0-0 would have been a fair result, but it wasn't meant to be."

He added: “Any striker will tell you it is nice to get off the mark and to do it in my second game was a relief - especially as it meant something.

"Getting it right can take time because you never quite know what your best team is until you have tried a few systems and played a few games.

"You have to try different players in different positions to see what works best.

“Monday wasn’t the result we wanted, but we are a young squad, with quality and we will get better.”
