Latest Wimbledon Hercules news - Cowan on fire in the Rosenheim League

Cowan, 28, whose football-playing career with Fisher Athletic ended in 2011 due to injury, posted a life-time best time of 21.9 seconds, slicing one-tenth of a second off his previous best set.

Cowan did not enter the annual Surrey track & field championships the previous weekend but, had he done so, his time would have been good enough to take the silver medal.

At the end of the meeting, he anchored the Hercules Wimbledon team to victory in the 4x200m relay linking up with Joseph Chukwuadinula, Hamed Agboke and Antonio Douglas.

The quartet won by almost 40 metres in 1:33.1.

Cowan's efforts helped the team to second spot overall just two seconds behind the winners.

Earlier, Chukwuadinula was just pipped in a tight battle in the 100m where he shared the winning time of 11.0secs in shaving one-tenth of a second off his previous best.

Hercules Wimbledon's Hamed Agboke was another winner taking the 400m in 52.3secs.

Former junior international 400m hurdler Austin Ferns continued his return to fitness after injury winning the non-scoring 400m race in 53.1sesc with his younger brother Esmond finishing runner-up in 54.5secs.

All-rounder David Harris made a valuable contribution to the overall team effort in taking third place in the high jump and triple jump as well as contesting the 400m hurdles.

Elsewhere, Oxford athletics blue Andrew Penney clocked a life-time best of 32 minutes, 10 seconds in leading the Hercules Wimbledon contingent home in the BUPA London 10km road race.

He finished 42nd out of more than 10,000 runners. He chopped more than two minutes off his previous best time for the distance set when he last competed over 10km in 2008.

Kieran White was 80th in 33:16, six seconds ahead of Liam White (87th) with Fred Slemeck 101st in 33:45 and Matt Sharp 105th in 33:54.

Lisa Crow was top Hercules Wimbledon woman finisher in 41:51 taking 122nd place in the women's race.

Former Scottish Commonwealth Games pole vault representative Alison Davies broke Hercules Wimbledon's senior women's record when she won the event at the second Southern Veterans League meeting of the season at Kingsmeadow Stadium. She cleared two metres and was also third in the 100m.

In the men's match, there was a hat-trick of wins in the over-40 category with Mark White taking the 100m, David Harris the long jump and Dave Orchard the discus. Over-50 veteran Knut Hegvold won the 5,000m while Paul Wignall won the over-60 100m event.

This weekend, Hercules Wimbledon athletes are in action in the London & Surrey schools championships being held at the Millennium Arena, Battersea Park and Kingsmeadow Stadium, respectively.

Teenage sprinter Theo Etienne will be hoping to add the schools 100m title to the county gold medal he won at Kingsmeadow Stadium last month.

On Sunday, Hercules Wimbledon's youngsters compete in the second of this season's Eddisham Boys League meetings at Croydon Sports Arena, while Hercules Wimbledon host the third of this season's Rosenheim League East Division meetings at Tooting Bec next Wednesday evening, starting at 6.45pm.
