Princess Eugenie’s striking wedding dress designed by Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos is to go on display at Windsor Castle.

The gown was created with a low back at Eugenie’s request to show her long scar from an operation she underwent aged 12 to correct a curvature of her spine.

In the run-up to the wedding, she told ITV’s This Morning: “I think you can change the way beauty is, and you can show people your scars and I think it’s really special to stand up for that.”

On display with the dress for the first time will be the Greville Emerald Kokoshnik Tiara the princess wore on her wedding day on October 12 last year, at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.

The Queen lent her granddaughter the piece, made of brilliant and rose-cut diamonds set in platinum, with six emeralds on either side.

Eugenie’s diamond and emerald drop earrings, which were a wedding gift from husband Jack Brooksbank, will also be on display in March, as will the groom’s wedding outfit – a black and grey morning suit with a vivid blue waistcoat made by tailors at Huntsman on Savile Row.

The princess met the designers of her wedding gown while co-hosting an event in support of women artists, and has been wearing designs by their brand for several years.

Mr Pilotto and Mr De Vos worked closely with their client and researched previous wedding dresses worn by members of the Royal Family and identified a silhouette.

During several fittings, the dress was developed layer by layer, from the corset and complex underskirt to the fitted bodice and full pleated skirt.

The fabric of the dress, also designed by Mr Pilotto and Mr De Vos, includes a number of symbols meaningful to Eugenie – the White Rose of York and ivy, which represents the couple’s home Ivy Cottage.
