A veteran of the Second World War celebrated her 101st birthday at a Surbiton veterans' home earlier this month.
A party was held for Nora Birtwistle on Friday, June 7, at the Royal Star and Garter (RSG) care home with residents, family and guests enjoying a birthday cake, Champagne, and live music.
Ms Birtwistle lived in Surbiton before moving nearby to the Home in Upper Brighton Road, which provides care for ex-Servicemen and women and their partners living with disability or dementia.
She served in the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF) between 1941 and 1945, working as a radar operative and attaining the rank of Leading Aircraft Woman.
The party was attended by her nephew James Birtwistle, his wife, their two children and baby grandson (pictured).
"The party was wonderfully organised by The Royal Star & Garter Homes and my aunt had a lovely time," Mr Birtwistle said.
The RSG Homes is a charity founded in 1916 to care for the severely injured men returning from the battlegrounds of the First World War.
Today the charity provides award-winning care for military veterans and their partners who live with disability or dementia.
