A row has broken out over who manufactured the roof at Epsom Downs Racecourse which was peeled back in high winds last week.

The Epsom Guardian was told by contractors Wilmott Dixon on Wednesday that Euroclad had manufactured the aluminum roof for the Duchess's stand, which was no thicker than a credit card.

But this morning Euroclad contacted the newspaper denying that it made or had any involvement with the failed roof.

It said that it manufactured and subcontract the installation of the undamaged pavilion roof at the racecourse.

Jonathan Dore, executive director of business development for Euroclad said: “There were two main phases on the development - the entrance pavilion which was supplied in 2006 by Euroclad and the Duchess’s stand which was constructed in 2008.

We tendered for that building but we were unsuccessful and Willmott Dixon used a different sub contractor and manufacturer so it’s not our roof on the Duchess’s stand.”

Willmott Dixon has been contacted by the Epsom Guardian and is currently checking its files to confirm who actually made it.
