A Ewell man is more than halfway through his 5000 mile cycle around the UK coastline.

Lewis Stephens, 23, set off on his arduous on June 2 in is support of CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), a men's mental health charity.

Originally Lewis was cycling 50 miles a day (weather permitting) and living on £5 per day.

When he was hosted for a weekend in Newquay restaurant Reefs he insisted on volunteering as a pot-wash to ‘pay’ for his stay.

“I've had close friends whose family members have taken their lives due to problems that arise through no fault of their own," Lewis said.

"I've experienced the same emotions whilst coping with low level addiction and I feel that by looking for alternate ways of dealing with problems there are ways to overcome this issue.

"CALM for me personally is the perfect charity to make the first steps to that change.”

However, the trip has evolved and his is current challenge is to live on £20 for 20 days.

During the trip he has been given "incredible" offers from the public to keep him going. These include army ration packs, free accommodation and even people who want to cycle some of the route with him.

So far he has travelled 3200 miles and is hoping to finish by mid-November.

“I've had close friends whose family members have taken their lives due to problems that arise through no fault of their own," he added.
