After many decades of neglect, Epsom’s Horton Chapel is being prepared for renovation works head of a new relaunch.

The venue is set to reopen as The Horton and will offer a place to host arts, events, a café and gardens.

A fundraising auction will be held on Sunday, March 17, from 10am-12.30pm at Horton Chapel itself in Haven Way, Epsom.

Ian Reeves, chair of Horton Chapel Arts & Heritage Society said: “Epsom’s Psychiatric Hospital Cluster was such a big part of many people’s lives over the last century – and as a renovated venue we want The Horton to be a place where everyone feels welcome.

“The charity auction is a one-off opportunity to take a piece of history into your home – and contribute to the success of this exciting project.”

Epsom's Horton Chapel is now in the hands of Horton Chapel Arts and Heritage Society, following the signing of a 125 year lease with Epsom and Ewell Council, which means work can begin.

Items that will be up for sale include some of the chapel's pews, tables, cupboards, kneeler cushions, a selection of prayer and hymn books, unusual ephemera and a damaged grand piano.

Anyone who would like to attend the auction is asked to register via the website or the HortonChapelEpsom Facebook page.

The project is being supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
