The man charged with murdering mum Aliny Mendes was married to the victim, police have confirmed.

Ricardo Godinho, 41, of Kingston Road in Epsom was charged with murder yesterday evening (February 10) and possession of a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place.

He appeared at Staines Magistrates' Court earlier today and was then taken to Guildford Crown Court where he was remanded in custody.

Godinho will next appear at Guildford Crown Court on March 15 for a pre-trial plea hearing.

Aliny Mendes, 39, died at the roadside shortly after police were called to Sparrow Farm Road junction of London Road in Ewell.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Chapman said: “Officers will continue to patrol Ewell and provide reassurance to the public following the tragic incident on Friday, where sadly, Aliny Mendes lost her life. A post-mortem examination has concluded that Aliny died as a result of stab wounds.

“I can now confirm that the Aliny Mendes and Ricardo Godinho were married, but had separated. However, I would continue to urge people not to speculate about the details around the circumstances of what happened, and that if anyone has any information that which could help with our investigation, to get in touch with us.
