Epsom and Ewell Borough councillor Barry Nash has spoken out about rough sleeping in the borough, following concerns from residents and Council staff.

The chairman of the community and wellbeing committee spoke out after Epsom and Ewell and the East Surrey Outreach Service received several reports from the public and staff of rough sleepers in the borough.

Mr Nash said he wished to reassure residents who are worried, adding: “We have engaged with all known rough sleepers and offered them a housing solution.

“Sadly, in some cases they have chosen either not to engage with us or have refused our housing offer.”

A spokesman for Epsom and Ewell said: “We proactively and regularly engage with those sleeping rough in the borough.

“Offers are made for practical help to find and secure accommodation for the individuals and we will continue to engage with and support them to try to find longer term solutions.”

If members of the public come across a rough sleeper and are concerned about their welfare, they can alert StreetLink on www.streetlink.org.uk

If the person needs urgent medical attention or you believe they are under 18 years of age, call 999.
