A 10 year-old girl from Epsom has been crowned winner of a drawing competition run by Eden Walk Shopping Centre for her depiction of the gingerbread house in Hansel and Gretel.

Michaela received a framed photo of her design presented by the Mayor of Kingston Councillor Thay Thayalan on November 15.

She was also awarded a family ticket to see the Hansel and Gretel performance at the Rose Theatre Kingston as well as a £30 Ryman voucher.

Pupils at Riverview Church of England Primary and Nursery School all took part in a challenge to design the front of “Santa’s letter” inspired by the fairytale Hansel and Gretel.

All children in the borough who slip their letter to Santa in a post box on Central Square before December 17 will receive a reply from him featuring Michaela’s drawing and a small gift.

Ailsa Fraser, Centre Manager at Eden Walk, said: “The Letter to Santa competition has become a big part of our festive celebrations at Eden Walk.

“We were delighted to make it extra special this year by involving the children of Riverview Church of England Primary and Nursery School. Michaela’s drawing was so fun and colourful, we couldn’t resist it.

“We loved looking at all of the fantastic Christmas card designs, and we can’t wait to read the imaginative letters to Santa.”
