Epsom Chess Club were narrowly eliminated from Surrey’s Lauder Trophy and Alexander Cup competitions after hard-fought matches with Dorking and Surbiton.

Marcus Gosling, 24, Epsom Chess Club president, said:"We did ourselves proud in both cups, but now we must focus on winning Division 4 of the Surrey League".

The Epsom team played Dorking in the Lauder Cup quarter-final with Dorking on Monday, September 24.

The match ended 3-3, with wins by Ravi Sharma and Venky Subramoniam but, but Epsom were eliminated on a tie-break.

Epsom Chess Club lost 6-4 to Surbiton on October 1 in the Alexander Cup quarter-final, which took place across 10 boards.

Epsom's first league match will be on October 11 against Wimbledon V. The club meets on Monday evenings from 7.30pm at The Rising Sun pub.
