Residents have been given a platform to air their opinions on a renewed proposal to build a Lidl in Ewell.

The proposal would see the construction of a Lidl on London Road on the site of the former Organ and Dragon pub, which has been vacant for four years.

The Lidl would have an internal area of 1,307 square metres, with 57 parking spaces, four cycle parking spaces and pedestrian access.

The planning application, submitted to Epsom and Ewell Borough Council, is still in the consultation phase. Objections and letters of support will be accepted until Friday, September 7.

The planning assessment attached to the application reads: “The development will secure the regeneration of a derelict brownfield site and the provision of new employment opportunities.”

Another proposal to build a Lidl on the same site was refused in 2006 on the grounds that it would create congestion and pose a safety risk to pedestrians.
