A fire in the Epsom Playhouse that burned overnight has now been confirmed as an arson.
Four fire engines rushed to the scene at 1.50am this morning and dealt with the fire, in which fortunately nobody was harmed.
Sergeant Jason Wallis, of Surrey Police, said: "Working closely with the fire service, we have determined that this blaze is a result of an arson attack.
"If you saw or heard anything in the early hours of this morning, please let us know."
Damage was limited to backstage areas at the venue, in Ashley Avenue, near the Ashley Centre.
There were no performances planned today but a dress rehearsal for 'Curtains' by Epsom Light Opera is going ahead, stating on Facebook: "The show must go on!"
Witnesses are encouraged to call the police on 101 quoting reference P17261353, or to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
