A fire was deliberately started in a playground by a group of young people last night, according to the fire service.
An Epsom fireman said the crew was called to a playground in Sefton Road, Epsom, at 5.30pm, following reports of a fire in the open.
He said: "It was a deliberate fire by some youths.
"They set fire to some discarded cardboard and newspapers in the playground.
"There was a witness there who called us.
The youths had run away by the time we got there."
A Surrey Police spokesman said: “Surrey Police was made aware by Surrey Fire and Rescue Service that some paper and cardboard had been deliberately set alight in Sefton Road, Epsom."
