I am writing to you in regard to the proposed plan to build 500 new homes on the land owned by Merton College, Oxford and Mole Valley District Council, where the community allotments are situated.
As a resident of Mole Valley for over 54 years, I have enjoyed Leatherhead and Ashtead and witnessed many changes, particularly the building of the M25.
My children and my grand-children have been raised in Lower Ashtead.
I feel that it is unfair to allow Barratt Homes to build and expect children to be raised so close to the M25 motorway.
The effects of pollution on the human body is severe and to allow children to play and breathe the exhaust fumes of the thousands of motor vehicles that use the M25 each day is ethically corrupt and morally indecent.
Exposing children to the toxic fumes is tantamount to a breach of human rights.
To expect 500 residents to reside so close to the M25 is appalling, given that the council has a quota of new homes to build and targets to meet.
They have not considered the impact that this will have on health and the safety of those expected to live under the M25 on this 30 acre plot.
It is deplorable that Mole Valley has allowed councillors to reach a decision behind closed doors without consulting the community, health inspectors, registered general practitioners and those expected to live on this land.
The council are not concerned with who lives there, or the safety and health of the residents. They are only concerned with receiving the £21m and pleasing those at both Barratt Homes and Oxford University.
It is time that the council were less selfish and were more considerate to the community and the lives of others.
