Burglars smashed their way through the roof of a petrol station to snatch thousands of pounds worth of cigarettes at the weekend.

The break-in occurred between 3.45am and 4.20am on Saturday, July 20, at the Texaco Petrol Station on Givons Grove, in Leatherhead.

So much damage was caused that the owner is facing a £10,000 repair bill.

Police Constable Jonathan Wilkins, said: "I would appeal to anyone who was in the area around the time of the offence or who witnessed anything suspicious in the days prior to contact officers with information.

"I would also ask anyone who has been offered any cigarettes at a cut-down price and believe they could be stolen to provide information to police."

Anyone with information should call the police on 101, quoting reference MV/13/2741, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
