I read the article in the Epsom Guardian (July 11th) where Raymond Blanc urged people to do more composting and thought I’d write in to support this. We bought one of the county council’s £15 compost bins a little while back and have received an unexpected side benefit in the fun and education it gives to our two year old son.

He loves to help his daddy carry the compost out to "give the worm’s their dinner" and is fascinated when I dig out a worm or a wood louse to show him the little creatures that are living off our kitchen waste. It’s only a little thing but hopefully the start of an interest in the world around him.

These days, where a lot of kids think that food grows in plastic packets on supermarket shelves, it’s great to spark an early interest in the cycles of nature. Composting is a great thing to get the kids involved in and is so simple that they can’t really get it wrong. £15 well spent in my view!!
