I read with interest your article in the 27th June Epsom Guardian, Cameras called for on road with miracle crash escapes, on the dangerous speeding on Alexandra Road, Epsom.
So I had to write in to correct the mistaken impression about the road given by Councillor Julie Morris.
I actually live on Alexandra Road so I know what it is like day and night, unlike Julie Morris who only drives down it.
Possibly when she drives up and down it is at a busy time or maybe one of the rare occasions when a parked car slows the traffic.
But we residents know that for much of the time it is clear enough for cars to either speed down the hill towards Epsom or up the hill towards the college. Heavy traffic doesn’t mean slow traffic I can assure her! (Skip lorries thundering by at over 30mph are no joke).
Councillor Morris says she doesn’t want to see some kind of speed traffic calming on every A- road, but surely she wants what we residents want - motorists to obey the law and drive safely? If she is not advocating a speed camera, I would like to know how she, our EEBC College Ward councillor, and Tina Mountain, our Surrey county councillor, plan to encourage drivers to keep to the existing 30mph speed limit which at present, in general, they do not.
