A car was found torched last night after a security van was robbed in New Malden High Street earlier in the evening.
Police are investigating the robbery, believed to be of a security van loading a cash machine at Santander.
The bank was boarded up this morning.
The torched dark blue Vauxhall in nearby Sheephouse Way, Old Malden, is now a crime scene.
Firefighters were called to the blaze at about 9pm last night.
Steve Preston, watch manager of New Malden fire station, said: "We knew about this as we were called to a car alight on Sheephouse Way and we turned up to a fully developed car fire which was really going.
"The locals said they saw a couple of people jump out of the car and set alight to it and run off.
"It transpires that the car was used in the robbery itself."
