A man has been killed after being struck by a train at East Croydon station on Monday morning.
The victim, believed to be a 50-year-old from Penge, was pronounced dead at the scene after being hit by the Three Bridges-bound Victoria service just before 2.30am.
The fatality was the second major incident on Croydon’s rail network within 24 hours.
A maintenance worker in his 30s remains in a serious condition in hospital after being struck by a train while working on the track near Reedham Station, near Purley, early on Sunday morning.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “BTP officers were called to the line close to East Croydon station, Surrey, on Monday, 13 June after a report that a man had been struck by a train.
“BTP and Metropolitan Police officers attended the incident, which was reported to police at 02.29am and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
“Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service also attended but the man, believed to be 50-years-old and from Penge, was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
