A huge charity fashion show held at Oceana nightclub last week is the first step in one man's bid to put Kingston on the sartorial map.

Kingston University economics graduate, Vax Bahram, 25, staged the show on Thursday, July 6, in the club's impressive Viennese ballroom, with proceeds going to Kingston Can and The Prince's Trust.

Hand-picked models strutted their stuff on the catwalk wearing clothes designed by the latest crop of Kingston University fashion graduates.

Mr Bahram, who has worked for Tommy Hilfiger and Porsche the latter of which sponsored the event, wants to promote Kingston as a town worth taking seriously in the fashion stakes.

He said: "I have always been fascinated by fashion and like to look my best. While doing my degree I noticed there was nothing like this happening in Kingston. I have studied entrepreneurship and thought this would be a way of putting it into practice.

"I think Kingston is capable of putting on an annual fashion event, because we have this fantastic venue, the university and supportive local businesses.

"I hope to make next year's even bigger and better."
