In January I completed two weeks work experience at a public relations company in Piccadilly. The placement came through a family friend who owns the company. It really was an adventure. I met lots of new people, and encountered and completed a number of new tasks. I learnt that the world of PR is busy and competitive; whilst I was there we wished bon voyage to one client and welcomed a new one.

I was terrified I would treated as a dogs-body, making tea and coffee. However, I was assigned to the Beauty Department and treated as a responsible adult. I did not just go through the motions but completed essential tasks for the company. Once, I was mistaken for a university graduate student – flattering? - and on one lunch break, I met Paloma Faith in Berkeley Square. Various other instances helped make the two weeks most memorable ones. Lunches in Berkeley Square, St James, and The Stafford, and the make-up. Oh, the make up! The company kindly gifted me internationally renowned make-up at the end of my first week, and again on my final day when all the girls invited me to come back as vacation intern.

The work experience benefited me greatly. I more assured especially when meeting new people, and I now have the confidence to know that when given a job I can complete it; what is needed is a positive attitude and belief in oneself.
