Two post office workers in Epsom will put the final stamp on their careers on Thursday after nearly fifty years’ combined service.
Eve Killick and Joy Moss are retiring from the Tattenham Corner branch, where they have worked together since June 1987.
Over the past week grateful customers have been showering them with presents and cards in recognition of their first-class skills.
Eve, who began work at the post office 27 years ago, said: “We will miss the customers, many of whom have been saying they are sad to see us go.
“There are some I can remember coming in when they were pregnant, and now I have seen their children grow up.”
Joy, the junior colleague, with 22 years’ service, said: “We have built up a really good rapport with people.
“There have been no gold watches but some very thoughtful gifts. I’m not crying, though, because we both live locally and will still meet up.”
John Beck, 61, a customer for 14 years, led the tributes to the duo, saying: “Whenever I come in, I receive wonderful service and the two ladies have always been very helpful.
“Over the years I have given them extremely awkward parcels and some truly outlandish requests, but nothing has ever fazed them.
“They never get upset and are always good humoured and never late.
"The post office is going to be a sadder place after Thursday.”
