Five years ago Kingston couple Mark Shelley and Suzy Myler were packing up their tents after a hot and hectic weekend at the Big Chill music festival, wishing there was someone else willing to stress over tent poles and groundsheets for them.

Roll on to 2008 and the pair are offering their Tangerine Fields tent pitching and hire service at more than 20 festivals across the UK, ranging between the rock and sweat of Reading and Leeds to the more serene Guardian literary festival in Hay-on-Wye.

In that time the business has moved from the couple's kitchen table to a fully-fledged office building in Kingston, employing up to 40 staff on busy weekends at events around the country.

Miss Myler said: We'd had a big weekend at the Big Chill and were packing up tents thinking: This is such a dreadful job, surely you can get people to do it for you?'.

"On the way home we decided it was a no-brainer, and when we put a draft of our ideas to the Big Chill organisers we got a really positive response.

"I think we got in to the market just at the right time as the festival scene has gone crazy - the big ones have got bigger and the little ones have blossomed.

"I'm amazed but I can see looking around the conditions have just been perfect for us to make the most of a good idea."

With two young children to look after Miss Myler has taken a welcome break from pitching tents in all weathers, keeping an eye on the computer-based side of the businesses, but the couple are still coming up with new ways of giving music lovers the camping experience they desire.

She said: "We were the target market for the business, ourselves and our friends, so we had a lot of advice and know-how about what people would want.

"One idea we're going to do is a hairdryer tent - girls at festivals like to look nice, so we're just listening to our customers and finding out how we can make their stay as comfortable as possible."
