A Southfield's man was shot dead outside a Sutton party after insulting a 38-year-old's mum, a court heard today.

Joseph Greenland from West Molesey is accused of shooting Sean Jenkins six times after a party in Newstead Walk, Carshalton on December 4, 2006.

Setting out the case for the prosecution at the Old Bailey today, Michael Holland QC described the killing as "a cowardly and spiteful execution".

Mr Holland told the jury how Sean Jenkins, affectionately known as "Stretch" due to being 6ft 6in, and the defendant had both attended a boxing match at Caesers club in Streatham.

They were invited back by boxer Dean Hawkins who had decided to host a party.

Greenland, described as "a man with a violent temper" by Mr Holland, allegedly took offence to a comment made by Mr Jenkins about his mum.

He then left the party to pick up his gun at his home in West Molesey, and returned later, firing all six rounds at Mr Jenkins, the court heard.

Pathologists found bullet entry marks, the jury heard, in Sean Jenkins' shoulder, chest and bottom, with bullets piercing his heart and lung.

The prosecution outlined how Mr Greenland then attempted to intimidate those at the party to prevent them giving evidence.

Mr Holland said DNA evidence taken from a cigarette butt and a wine glass at the party showed Mr Greenland was present to a probability of one in a billion.

He added CCTV footage and phone records showed his alleged movements from the party to his house, where his girlfriend claimed he kept a gun in a bag in a cupboard under the stairs, and then back to the party.

Greenland denies murder.

The trial continues.
