King’s House School is an independent day preparatory school for boys aged 3 to 13 with a co-educational nursery in Richmond, Surrey.

At King’s House staff aim to give its pupils the best possible start in life. Boys and girls join our Nursery in the term they turn 3, and are introduced to the exciting world of learning in a safe, secure and stimulating environment.

The Nursery is nestled in the heart of the community in Richmond, and you will find an oasis of warmth, laughter and a wealth of resources to inspire little minds. We are an educational nursery where children are taught by a team of highly experienced staff. We are proud of our community and of our happy, confident and thoughtful children who respect each other and the wonderful surroundings they share.

We work closely with families of our girls to find the right school for them at age 4, enjoying good relationships with a broad range of next stage schools. Boys in the Nursery move up into Reception already familiar with the school, having taken part in whole school activities such as Sports Day, concerts and Nativity performances. Our staff take pride in the fact that the boys and girls move on from King’s House Nursery ready to face their next schools with confidence. There is a focus on the prime areas of learning, embedding the vital skills children need to enable them to learn. In the Butterfly Class, for older children, the day is broken up with specialist teaching to prepare children for Reception.

Surrey Comet:

With small class sizes, excellent pastoral care and specialist teaching, King’s House Junior Department (Reception to Year 3) offers its pupils a unique, caring and stimulating environment, which encourages each child to seize every learning opportunity. From their first day boys quickly make friends and settle into their daily routine.

The four years in the Junior Department instil pupils with a lifelong love of learning. Based in their own classrooms with their Teacher and Teaching Assistant, the pupils’ timetable is tailored to suit their age group. Alongside English, Maths, Science and languages, boys benefit from specialist teaching staff in subjects such as Drama, Music, Art and Computing. They also take part in swimming and PE lessons, and from Year 1 use the facilities at our outstanding Sports Ground in Chiswick, which has over 35 acres of pitches and facilities.

Working with parents, our staff help the pupils to achieve their own best standard in a happy and nurturing environment. By the time they move across the road to the Senior Department (Years 4 to 8), the boys have become confident, independent learners and ambassadors of King’s House School.

We work closely with families to ensure that they choose the right senior school for each boy, and have forged strong relationships with staff at leading schools to understand the pupils that will thrive there.
