Oxford Brookes said it expected students to ‘act responsibly’ – after four members of its student body were fined for breaching lockdown rules.

The four students were fined for attending gatherings at Clive Booth Hall, Horwood Close or Walton Well Road in March.

A magistrate considering the cases under the single justice procedure – which sees a sole JP decide whether or not the case is proved rather than the typical bench of three magistrates – found the cases against the students proved earlier this month.

An Oxford Brookes University spokesman told the Mail: "We expect all students to act responsibly to keep themselves and others safe during the pandemic.

“We are continuing to work in close partnership with the police and council to address any issues of poor student conduct."

The four students were:

Junayna Nisa, 22, of Clive Booth Hall, was found to have attended a gathering at her flat on March 24, 2021. She was fined £880 and must pay £178 in costs and surcharge.

Daniel Dixon, 19, of Wheatley Campus, College Close, was fined £880 and ordered to pay £178 in costs and surcharge for attending a gathering at the same Clive Booth Hall flat on March 24.

Oliver McAndrew, 20, of Clive Booth Hall, took part in a gathering at Horwood Close, Oxford on March 13. He was fined £1,760 and ordered to pay £266 in costs and surcharge.

Imogen Brook, 20, of Cheney Student Village, was fined £880 and ordered to pay £178 in costs and surcharge for attending a gathering at a property in Walton Well Road, Oxford, on March 24.

At the time, the government's Coronavirus Regulations banned gatherings of two or more people.

Last September, Brookes students hit headlines after a video emerged showing than 100 freshers breaking coronavirus rules at the Cheney Lane student accommodation.

The video panned across five student blocks at the 'village' with a sea of people rammed on the courtyard. Brookes said the behaviour would not be tolerated.
