Roads were brought to a standstill in Surbiton on Friday (August 20) as emergency services responded to a crash on Victoria Road.

The crash happened on Victoria Road on Friday afternoon, around 1.34pm when police were called to the scene.

They responded to reports of a car crash in the area, as pictures circulating on social media in the aftermath of the crash attested.

Images showed a heavy emergency services presence on Victoria Road with paramedics and fire fighters also attending.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police told the Surrey Comet two people had been hurt in the crash and subsequently taken to hospital:

"Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 13:34hrs on Friday, 20 August to reports of a car in collision with a tree on Victoria Road in Surbiton.

"Officers attended. Two people were taken to hospital for treatment."

London Ambulance Service meanwhile confirmed their attendance at the scene but were unable to provide an update on the patients they had treated.
