Vicarage Road football stadium will be providing coronavirus vaccines this weekend to anyone over 18-years-old who has not been vaccinated.

It will be Watford’s biggest ever vaccination clinic, where the Pfizer vaccine will be distributed to people from 10am until 9pm on Sunday, June 27.

Watford Borough Council says the super-sized clinic is designed to support the town’s efforts to reduce infection rates, protect people from new variants of the virus and "save our summer".

People who go along will not need to provide ID or do not need to be registered with a GP and can either book ahead or just turn up on the day.

Dr Asif Faizy, Board GP Watford and Three Rivers and Locality Chair of NHS Herts Valleys CCG, said: “Getting vaccinated is the way to protect yourself and your loved ones, please come down to the FC; myself and all of the doctors will be happy to answer any questions you have.

"There will be helpers there who speak a number of the languages used locally if you need a translator.”

Entry to the stadium will be from outside The Hornets shop and down Occupation Road. The stadium is fully wheelchair accessible and disabled parking is available.

A managed queueing system will be in place to ensure social distancing is maintained and face masks must be worn at all times when inside the building (unless exempt).

Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “I am delighted we are now able to speed up the protection to the local community through this mass vaccination clinic, as it will give us the best chance locally of being able to enjoy the things we love in the summer.

“I would like to thank everyone who is helping us make this happen, especially the local doctors and volunteers, as well of course Watford FC, the businesses who have sponsored it, and the charities supporting it. The best thing that any of us can do to stop Covid spreading in Watford is to get both doses of the vaccine.”

The day will be supported by Watford Chamber of Commerce, local charity Sewa Day and Wenzels.

Street entertainment from Dickensian Ding Dong, Sid Bowfin, Sparky the Robot and Elton Wrong will also go ahead to keep people entertained and spirits high whilst they wait for their vaccine.

No parking is available at the club or on the surrounding streets. To avoid congestion, people should consider using public transport or walking when visiting the vaccination centre.

The flexible minibus service run by ArrivaClick is offering travel at £1 per fare and there are numerous Beryl bike share parking bays nearby.

For drivers, the best nearby car parks are: The Gade in Rosslyn Road (WD17 1PL) and The Avenue in Hempstead Road (WD17 4NR) and Town Hall car park.

Anyone who would prefer the certainty of a booked appointment, go to www.watford.gov.uk/supersunday or call 01923 278616 (open Wednesday to Friday from 9am to 7pm) and a member of staff will make a booking for Sunday on your behalf.

Alternatively, people can walk up on the day without an appointment, but should be prepared to queue to enter the stadium.
