The number of new cases of Covid-19 is rising in several areas of Surrey including Elmbridge, the latest data released by Surrey County Council (SCC) shows.

New cases rose in Elmbridge, Reigate and Banstead, Woking, Guildford and Runnymede in the seven days between March 4 and March 11, SCC said.

Positive Covid tests fell or remained steady in all other areas of the county, meaning that overall new infections were plateauing in Surrey.

"We are now seeing local fluctuations and a plateauing of the overall rate for Surrey," a spokesperson for SCC posted to Twitter alongside a graphic presenting the data.

"COVID is still present so please, get tested if you are going out for work and take the vaccine when called," they added.

The number of new cases of the period rose most sharply in Woking, with 55 new cases and a 'rolling rate' of 54.6 per 100,000 people, the highest in Surrey.

Other districts where cases rose including Reigate and Banstead (61), Guildford (62) and Runnymede (40).

In Elmbridge, there were 50 new cases of Covid-19 confirmed between March 4-March 11, giving the borough a rolling rate of 36.6.

Elsewhere however other regions of Surrey continued to perform well in terms of a declining number of new cases.

In Epsom and Ewell, for example, the number of new cases over the time period fell to just 17, handing the borough a rolling rate of 21.1.

That was significantly lower than the rate for Surrey (35.2), and much lower than that for England as a whole (58.4).
