New Malden station car park has had a 'major' overhaul to make it safer and easier for drivers and pedestrians to use.

Working with Transport for London and Kingston Borough Council, South Western Railway has fully resurfaced and reconfigured the car park so that drivers can enter, park and exit as conveniently as possible.

To improve safety, SWR and TfL relocated the station’s bus stop to an alternative location and put in place a new walking route which is set to help customers navigate the car park with ease.

Surrey Comet:

The £55,000 upgrade was funded mainly through SWR’s Customer and Communities Improvement Fund (CCIF), which supports projects that have a community benefit across the company’s network.

CCIF funds invest up to half a million pounds per award, which contributes towards an annual community investment of around £2.6 million every year.

David Wilby, Regional Development Manager at SWR said: "Here at SWR, we’ve been working hard while passenger numbers are low to improve our network in readiness for the return of more of our customers.

“This car park upgrade is just one example of this important work.

Surrey Comet:

"Customers will find the carpark easier and safer to use – enhancing the overall experience of using the station.

“Connecting people is what we do, and work such as this is key to making these connections stronger”.

Kingston councillor Mark Durrant commented: “This upgrade is great news for local residents and comes as a result of effective partnership working between SWR, Kingston Borough Council and TfL.

“These improvements will make a real difference to residents, helping to make the car park more convenient and – crucially – safer to use."
