A man was stabbed and suffered severe injuries in what police described as a 'brutal' attack in New Malden on Thursday night (January 28).

The attack happened in the early evening in the moments before police were called to the scene on Georgia Road (KT3) at 5.05pm.

There they found a 42-year-old man suffering from multiple stab wounds.

A Met Police statement confirmed he was taken to an south London hospital where he continues to receive treatment for his injuries.

Detectives from the Met’s South West division are now keen to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident or noticed anything suspicious in the area at the time.

Detective Constable Jake Smalley, investigating, said: "This was a brutal attack which has left the victim hospitalised, with a long road to recovery.

"I believe there are witnesses to this incident who may be able to assist with our enquiries and help us to identify who is responsible. I would urge them to get in touch.

"If you saw any suspicious activity in the area that evening, or have any information regarding the attack, please come forward and tell us."

There have been no arrests so far as police inquiries continue.
