Six new affordable homes are being built on the Lizard Peninsula - and now is the time for local people to register an interest.

People with a strong connection to the Grade Ruan parish are encouraged to take a look at the new homes in Ruan Minor, which will be available for secure affordable rent from this spring.

There will be four one-bedroom flats for two people and two two-bedroom houses for four people.

All of the homes, which are being built by the Community Land Trust, overseen by a local committee, will be available on a priority basis to local people from Grade Ruan parish, or with a strong connection to the local area.

Former MP for the area Andrew George, who was born and brought up on the Lizard Peninsula, is the chief executive of the Cornwall Community Land Trust. He said: “These will be fabulous, good size and energy efficient affordable homes.

"We’re very excited and proud to offer these homes to local families.

“If you don’t want to miss out, now’s the time to register your interest.

"We urge locals with a strong connection to Grade Ruan Parish - ie Ruan Minor, Cadgwith, Kennack Sands, Kuggar and area - who wish to apply for one of the affordable rent homes to register on Cornwall Homechoice now.

“We also warmly congratulate the volunteers of the local, Grade Ruan, Community Land Trust who have worked so hard to get this excellent project to the point of delivery.

"They have shown remarkable perseverance in the face of many challenges on the way to ensure the local community has succeeded in producing really good quality and affordable homes which will be controlled by the local community in perpetuity."

He went on to add that, unlike most private developer-led projects of this kind, this was a 100 per cent affordable homes scheme.

All the affordable homes would remain for locals in perpetuity, with no market-value homes.

Paul Collins, chairman of Grade Ruan Community Land Trust, said: "It's taken us seven years to get this far but it's exciting to see the homes slowly becoming reality and it will be wonderful to see them lived in by local people."

Two online events will now give people the chance to look at floorplans and images of the homes and to ask questions of Cornwall Community Land Trust and Grade Ruan Community Land Trust.

The first event will take place on Tuesday, February 2 at 5.30pm, with the second two weeks later on February 16, also at 5.30pm, both online.

The events will be held via Zoom and will last an hour.  To register for the online events call Cornwall Community Land Trust on 01872 243554 or email info@cornwallclt.org Cornwall Community Land Trust has thanked Cornwall Council and Homes England for their support and financial contributions towards the project.
