Staff at three Tesco stores in Cornwall have tested positive for coronavirus it has been confirmed.

It is understood that a "small number of colleagues" at Tesco branches in St Ives and Truro are isolating after receiving positive test results, along with one member of staff from the chain's Launceston store.

Tesco has confirmed that anyone who had come into close contact with the staff members had been informed of the results.

A spokesperson for Tesco said: “A small number of colleagues in Cornwall have tested positive for Covid-19. Their close contacts have been informed.

"The safety of our colleagues, customers and suppliers remains our number one priority and we are working with local public health authorities, following all Government guidance and taking the relevant precautions.

"We have extensive measures across all of our stores to help keep everyone safe, including protective screens at every checkout, social distancing signage and regular cleaning.”

Earlier this week popular Cornish pasty maker Philps Bakery announced that it had had to halt production for ten days after one of its workers tested positive for Covid.

However, the company said it had been following the guidelines set by the government to be Covid safe, and with the sharp rise in infection rates in Cornwall recently had put in extra planning and preparation in place to be ready for a situation like this.
