Despite the defeat to Stoke, Wycombe manager Gareth Ainsworth was happy that his side ‘got their identity’ back in the 1-0 loss.
Nick Powell scored the only goal on 72 minutes to give the away side the win in the first game which allowed fans to return to Adams Park.
Ainsworth said: “It was really encouraging.”
“We can still tweak the formation depending on what is coming up against us, but I am pleased with David and Alex in the first-half as they ran the Stoke defenders ragged.
“And when Bayo and Kashket came on, you know you are going to get chances and opportunities.
“If VAR was in this league and we might have one or two more points than what we have got but I can’t believe I am asking for that as this is Wycombe Wanderers.
“We have got the names and we have got the quality but it just wasn’t for us today [against Stoke].
“But I am pleased of the boys and we got our identity back.”
He was also very pleased with the performance of David Wheeler, who played as a striker for the Chairboys in the match against Stoke.
He continued: “I think David Wheeler has had probably the best game he has had for us this season.
“He is a great lad.
“Never leaves anything out on the pitch and we have needed that identity on the pitch without Bayo and I think we saw it against Stoke.”
