The M25 motorway near Chertsey was closed by emergency services this morning (Wednesday, November 18) by a serious crash.
Traffic services reported massive queueing during rush hour and into 8am on the anti-clockwise route between Junctions 12 and 11, where the crash took place.
Emergency services including an air ambulance were called to attend to the incident, with an ambulance visible in traffic camera images captured nearby.
In a statement describing the crash, a spokesperson for Highways England said:
"The M25 in Surrey is closed anti-clockwise between J12 and J11 near, Chertsey due to a serious collision which occurred shortly before 01:00 this morning.
"Air Ambulance was in attendance. Surrey Police collision investigation officers are on scene along with Highways England Traffic Officers."
Please be aware there are long delays on the #M25 anti-clockwise between J12 (#M3) and J11 near, #Chertsey due to the ongoing collision. There is approx. 5 miles of congestion which is likely to add around 30 mins onto usual journey times.

Highways England meanwhile offered road users travelling on the M25 in the area the following diversion:
- Road users are advised to follow the hollow black square diversion symbol and exit the M25 at J13.
- At the roundabout take the 2nd exit on to the A30 towards Egham. Continue around the Glanty loop on to the A308 and at 'The Runnymede Roundabout' take the 5th exit A308 towards Chertsey.
- At the A308/B3376 roundabout take the 2nd exit on to the A320 towards Chertsey, under railway bridge and past Thorpe Park.
- At the A320/B388 roundabout, take the 1st exit on to the A320 towards Chertsey. Continue through Chertsey Town Centre and at A320/A317 roundabout take the 2nd exit on to the A317 towards Weybridge.
- Follow the A317 towards Weybridge and at the A317/A320 roundabout, take the 4th exit (A317) towards M25, to rejoin at J11.
Surrey Police were contacted for comment.
