With a national lockdown imposed to slow the spread of Covid-19, infection rates for the virus remained high across South London according to the latest Public Health England (PHE) data.

The government has extended the 'furlough' scheme to March 2021 and will pay workers wages up to 80 per cent who are put on furlough by their employers.

Meanwhile, authorities insist on citizens to stay at home during the lockdown to push the rate of new infections and ultimately deaths lower.

Only certain circumstances, including exercise, shopping for food, collecting medicines or essential work, are considered legitimate reasons to leave home.

"The rates per 100,000 resident population give a fairer comparison of the number of cases in each area but they do not take account of the different rates of testing or differences in the age and sex of the local populations.

"Data shown are cases by specimen date and because these are incomplete for the most recent dates, the period represented is the seven days ending 5 days before the date when the website was last updated."
