A POLICE car was badly damaged in a collision with a Mercedes.

There is slow traffic on the A27 Upper Brighton Road following the incident at about 3.45pm.

The wheel arch and driver's door of the police car have been battered and misshapen in the collision.

However, the grey Mercedes appears to have been more heavily damaged.

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "A police car and a private Mercedes vehicle were in collision on the A27 Upper Brighton Road at the junction with Grove Road, Worthing, at 2.26pm on Monday October 19.

"Nobody was injured. A temporary diversion was put in place while the matter was dealt with.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to report online or call 101 quoting serial 684 of 19/10."

The Argus:

The grill and front bumper came loose in the crash and both were left hanging off the car.

One of its front lights could also be seen on the road, surrounded by small fragments of debris.

The Argus:

An AA spokesman warned drivers to expect queuing traffic in the area as a result of the crash.

A passerby, who did not wish to be named, said the road was open but cars were passing slowly with traffic being marshalled by officers at the scene.
