A FIRE at a commercial property sparked a huge response from emergency crews.

There were eight fire engines at the scene at the height of the blaze in Lewes Road, Blackboys, late last night.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue service was called just after 11pm to reports of a fire at a commercial property and teams from Uckfield, Heathfield and Barcombe were quickly dispatched to the site.

They were later joined by crews from Mayfield, Hailsham, Crowborough and Brighton, as well as support from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, with the firefighters working well into the early hours to quell the inferno.

They remained on the scene for more than four hours.

At 3am, a spokeswoman for East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service provided an update on the incident.

She said: "We still have eight appliances on scene at the fire in Lewes Road, Blackboys. 

"Crews have sectorised the fire and it is under control. 

"However, crews are expected to remain on site for the next few hours. 

"A fire investigation is scheduled to happen later on today."
